Hi all - I'm in 5a (bordering on 5b). Looking to see what other people do in this zone for their maples. I have an Autumn Blaze that i just planted (11 footer) from the nursery - it was in a pot. Then i have a bunch of jap maples...bloodgood, shishigashira (1 foot high), tamukeyama, sango kaku, hokyoku, seiryu, butterfly, Ukigumo, Beni Otake, Suminagashi, viridis, oridino niskiki and then some japonicums: acont, green cascade. Do any of you put tree wrap around the trunks of your trees or stray with anti-dessicant? I put about 5 inches of mulch around bottom of trees - making sure mulch isn't too close to trunk - so far. Just not sure what to do next to give these trees the best care? Thanks for any suggestions.
