Please help identify my maple!

Ok, this maple was planted by my grandfather in his side yard as a seedling thirty years ago; about two weeks ago we had a storm and the tree fell into the neighbors garage. i'd really like to identify it so that i can get some seedlings (or yearlings) to replace the tree. i'd also like to try some as bonsai, so the younger the better for those. any help would be greatly appreciated!

Acer rubrum (Red Maple) - they set seed and the seed falls off the tree in Spring. I'm sure you can find some laying around and in shrubs etc.

I appreciate the attempt to help, but i don't think this tree is a red maple. all of the pictures of red maple leaves distinctly show small 'fingers' at the bottom of the leaf. the tree i'm looking for has three fingered leaves.
