I don't actually have a silver lace vine, but know that they will take over the area in which they are planted. They also take full sun. I actually think it is a very pretty vine, but in the right place. Good luck!

So, from the feedback I've gotten since I bought this plant I think i'm going to return it to Highland today. They didn't tell me it wasn't good to plant near other stuff when I asked. When I got this plant I was looking for one I saw in someone's yard. It's a vine with white lacy flowers in little round umbrella shapes. It's growing on someone's chainlink fence in south minneapolis. (she has a lovely garden in general) It is blooming now or at least was last week and was very full and vigorous looking. I don't think it was any kind of hydrangea because it's blooming now. It also looked less woody than that. Anyone have a clue? I would love to know what this is! At any rate it's not a silver lace vine...

Isn't Silver Lace Vine what we see growing over trees in the wild?

Try googling white flowering hydrangea vinetoo. It seems the last one I linked may be zone 5, but there is another that is zone 4. Also read the long description one of the first five sites, it may be helpful.

The botanical name for silver lace vine is polygonum auberti, so is different from vining hydrangea, which is known as schizophragma hydrangeoides. The vining hydrangea is a beautiful vine, but is rated zone 5 to 9, so ....

I think maybe Jan was responding to my question about the mystery vine later in the thread.

My mom has a hydrangea vine and I don't think it's the same as the one I saw. The other clue was that the vine I saw was blooming about a month ago. When I asked what it might be at tangletown he didn't think a hydrangea would be blooming yet. He didn't have another idea of what it might be though. (that's how i ended up with the silver lace vine which I have since returned..)

The thing I saw had lacy flowers almost like queen anne's lace on a vine but with a little bit bigger petals and overall flowers. I'm going to have to stop and ask her what it was!
