It's likely that they got frost nipped the other week when the temps got so low. Mine are all fine, but I have exceptionally hardy varieties. What varieties do you have? Where are they located? I may be able to answer better with that info. It's pretty darn hard to over-feed roses and you fed them at the right time too.

Mine are all hardy varieties, too--Wm. Baffin in a raised bed by the garage, a Hansa and Magnifica next to a lattice fence, and a Purple Pavement next to the Baffins. The Baffins and Pavements get some morning and full afternoon sun, while the Hansa and Magnifica get some morning, some afternoon sun. They all seem to be growing like crazy and the Baffins have formed rose buds already. I just got a little worried that I may have been a little too free with the fertilizer.

My Mary Queen of Scots is about to burst bud - but that's normal for her :) Fertilizer burn wouldn't do that though - not to the leaves...and Osmocote is good stuff. If they don't snap out of it very soon I'd start looking at viral causes. OH wait! Do you have a digital camera? The folks on the Rose Forum are wonderful and would be more than glad to help, but will request you post a picture. I wouldn't mind seeing one as well. I'm a little nervous with this weather, and last years that there may be some nasty stuff going around. I'll post a link of diseases w/ pics below and you can take a look. I really don't think you overfertilized...
