Gosh, it's so hot. Any chance some might be available in a month or so? I have wanted to try a pawpaw for some time now. It is an interesting tree.

Yes, Hank, they'll still be there in a month or so (unless somebody else comes to get them first...).

(You need two different pawpaws, if you want to get pawpaw fruit. I am about 93% confident that there are pawpaw suckers from both of my (different) pawpaw trees.)

I'm glad to see that you are even able to grow them. I know they grow wild west of me in WV, but I just don't see them around Winchester,VA. Finding some to dig up would be great.
Have you had any fruit? Please describe if you have. I've heard it is interesting. I've heard the flower is very interesting, also.

There are a lot of pawpaws growing along the C&O Canal trail, if you want to see them in the wild. If you poke around at the right time, you might also find fruit. Follow your nose, because the ripe fruit is very perfume-y.

This will be our third year with fruit from the trees. The flavor is kind of strawberry-banana-mango-ish, the smell is like the cherimoyas you can sometimes find in fancy and/or ethnic supermarkets (not surprising, since they're related), the texture is a bit like egg custard, and in our family, my little daughter loves them, I find them an acquired taste (but I acquired it), and my older daughter and husband won't eat them. We let the pawpaws decide for themselves when they're ripe, which means doing a daily check for pawpaws on the ground during pawpaw season.

(No, not coming to MAGTAG, alas. It's not been a good year for tomatoes for me.)
