Who's starting fall crops/flowers?

This weekend I started some marigolds, broccoli, lettuce, and spinach in the greenhouse. As soon as I get some more garden dirt I'll start some beans and peas out in the garden.

I also started some flowers that should bloom next year - Iberis, Sweet William and pansies. I cut back a scraggly pointsettia, and dipped the cuttings in rooting powder and put them in potting soil (I didn't have any perlite). I covered them with plastic bags and cups to create a humid environment, a la Crockett's Victory Garden.

And I mulched mulched mulched. I still have about a cubic yard to go (that's half a pick-up truck full).

I'm going to cut back some of the impatiens, and when they start to grow back, I'll take some stems before they flower and dip them in rooting powder. I never thought this would happen to me, but I've actually run out of pots! I'll have to hit some yard sales this weekend. I'll check out freecycle as well.

I just started some pansies for fall/spring and I started some stocks a few weeks back. I wish I had gotten some more pansy seeds this past spring; I didn't realize how few seeds there were in the packages.

If you can get to Silver Spring, I have lots of pots from 4 to 8 inches that you can have.

This weekend I plan to start buy bags of potting mix as well as potting soil.

I plan to take cuttings of my coleus as well as some perilla.

I guess I kept my pointsettia cuttings a little *too* moist, because they all got moldy!

Good thing I still have two branches left on the original plant. I'll wait until I get some perlite, like the instructions said.

Wedding Dance, what size pots are you seeking. I have many extra slated for the landfill. I fear most of mine are gallon and up size but probably a few small ones. Steve in Baltimore

I was looking for small pots, something to transfer my pansies into before letting them winter over in the cold frame (which is yet to be built). But Oscar, you could bring them to the Fall plant swap, I'm sure someone would love to trade with you.

Laine, I never even thought to take cuttings of my coleus. Is there a certain technique to it? Or just hack, dust, and plop? :-)
