Oh, my aching back!

Just put a couple hundred seedlings in the ground. When am I gonna learn to use those knee pads I got myself?!? :-)

I'm going to treat myself to an iced coffee now (and a couple of aspirin, heh heh). What's your favorite reward for getting a job in the garden done?

I'll second that! We just finished building, filling, and planting a new raised bed today for some "sun stuff" I had no other room for.

Good homebrewed beer and in a bit, a bowl of icecream I think...

Popsicles- totally addicted to them. I just got inside from mulching the rosebed, mowing the lawn, removing a dead apple tree, and spending one hour removing buckthorn. Two popsicles and I'm heading back out.

It's so nice to hear that someone can limit their buckthorn removal to one hour stretches. (Of course, that was after removing a dead apple tree and mowing the lawn, so I s'pose that doesn't really count.) Buckthorn removal is the most compulsive outdoor activity I've ever engaged in - there is always one more, one more, one more, one more.... Popsicles are a great idea! Diet Squirt is my current choice of a cool-off beverage.

A cold shower and maybe some ice cream or something. I just spent the last two days digging landscaping rock from the front of my house. Many of the rocks are mixed in with the dirt and I'm not quite finished yet. It's hard work but I'm sure my plants will be much more happy with mulch and ammended soil rather than rocks..

..I hope you aren't too sore in the morning.

When I have one of those all-day events in the gardens and I literally have to peel the clothes off in the bathtub because of the dirt and garden debris, all I want is a glass of wine and a big honking burger from the grill followed by a Dove Bar. Oh yeah...

Ice Tea while sitting in a lawn chair in the shade of the evergreen trees..... camera at hand with telescopic lense for any cool birds that venture in while I'm resting... then later, a shower and 4 ibuprofin or (if I've really, REALLY abused my body) substitute a soak in a hot tub. It's surprising how often I can get away with this without waking up stiff and sore!

First a cold glass of water, followed by a glass of red wine while sitting on the patio, enjoying the garden. The biggest reward is when someone walks by and comments about the beautiful garden as I sit there with my wine.

    Ahh, A boat ride.
I was blessed with a note in my mailbox that someone needed help clearing out a garden and to bring your shovel and pails.

I did. She wanted it all gone, granted she had about five other gardens, even more full. But she was moving and wanted this garden gone. I took a lot and came back the next day to clear the rest.

I spent a good 4-5 hours sunday planting the 100+ asiatic lilies, columbine, phlox, daylily varieties. This garden fairy godmother also split some praire smoke, pasque, saxigragia, yarrow, delphinium, husker red, iris, and others!

I had an area 80 feet wide by 10 feet deep to fill and this gave me a great start, since we have a very big lot which we had to scrape nearly clean since it was so overgrown(mostly by perennial weeds)!

Unfortunately I was not able to get the names for many of the plants, or in the hurriedness they fell off when I could. But nevertheless, it was great!

I then took some advil and we went out on our boat for a ride. I was hoping to tan my face so that not just the back of my neck is tan from looking down in the garden. Iced coffe sounds good, I bought a latte before and couln't take another drink, I heated up too much!

    great string!

I believe it's important to keep yourself hydrated while outdoors so while planting I usually like a diet sprite or diet iced tea. If not, just some water does the trick. I try to wear sunglasses and a hat, but I'm not really a hat person.

Afterward, if it's the weekend, I'll sit back and enjoy a beer or rum cooler and watch the fish swim in my small pond.

    A BBQ burger sounds great.

Then it's a bath to wash up and some noxzema or aloe vera, because no matter how much sunscreen I seem to use, I inevitably get sunburned.

I think it's important to sit back sometimes and enjoy your accomplishments thus far. So sitting outside after working in the yard, at least for a little bit, allows you to observe. There's always new things to do in the garden, but I like to reminisce, remembering when certain plants were small and just planted, and admiring how far they've come along.
