Isn't it funny in a way? Not long ago we were all talking about how dry it was! We were really lucky in that we got our veggie gardens dug while it was dry and planted them just the day before the wet weather started. I wonder, whether it would be worth trying a no till garden, Kristal. It might lend itself well to some things, and I'd think viney things like cucumbers, pumpkin, or squash might work pretty good. Maybe plant them, and mulch around them with grass clippings or something similar if you can get them.

That's one reason why it's best to ready your bed in the fall - so it will be all ready to go in spring no matter what the weather.

Perhaps I got lucky. I got to the compost pile when the first load came in and went back for a second trip even.

I made raised beds with 2x12 inch boards I had. First, I turned over the dirt that had had mulch from the year before. Then I added the compost, about 3" deep and planted my seeds. Other than a few morning glory shoots, it has stayed weed free. So far. Or the few weeds are easily plucked.

Now if I had a large garden........I probably wouldn't be so lucky.
