Are you talking about lily of the valley? They do much better in shade.

If that is lily of the valley, I totally agree. Even part sun will be better although they tend to look more ratty at the end of the season the more sun they get. I put them in my woodland garden and they are much lusher and happier than partly sunny spots. Seems they bloom better too.

I get better results diving this plant in late fall or early spring. It's not an easy plant to divide - hard work on the person, but relative indifference to the plant. I just wouldn't do it while they're blooming or in the hot summer.

That's my experience and I've done it about a dozen or so times - it all works out eventually. Anyone else?
