To date, the Moonfower seeds have been the largest I've seen second only to Scarlet Runner Bean seeds.
I've bought Burpee, Wal-Mart, and Martha Stewart.
They are all the large whitish/beige ones.
I was surprised to find that Martha Stewart's germinate quickest.

You may have gotten datura or angels trumpet seed. they are small like that. Some people call them moonflowers also. That's why it is nice to know the species names so you know you are talking about the same 'critter'.

My money says you have a datura, sometime called a moonflower "bush type". Lovely and fragrant so go ahead and plant them.

There are two plants commonly called "moonflower." One is in the Convolvulaceae, the morning glory family, and looks like a huge white morning glory. The seeds are like ivory colored beans. The other moonflower is Datura, in the Solanaceae, the tomato family, and has fragrant trumpet shaped flowers. Sometimes it is also called "angel trumpet."

When buying or trading for "moonflower," sometimes the only way to be sure which one you will get is to ask whether the plant grows like a vine or a small shrub.

I have had many similar experiences where common names are used, and confused. Best to learn and use the botanical names if at all possible.

Datura is poisonous, so you'll want to be sure you're not planting it where young children could get at it.

Anyone know when to start the seeds inside in zone 5?

So glad that Jennifer mentioned that Datura or "angel's trumpet" is poisonous...it grows wild in NJ, I pulled one out of one of my horse fields two years ago, deadly if they eat it. I believe that the entire plant is toxic, especially the seeds. Not something you want to plant around kids or animals that might take a bite.

Datura is also known as devils trumpet as the flowers start at the ground and face up to the moon, where as angle trumpets (Brugs) start at the sky and hang towards the ground
I have 25 different devil trumpets (Daturas)growing right now and 5 virieties of Angle trumpet (brugs)
The smell will be very intense this summer.
