Welcome to Maryland. Where about in our tiny state (compared to Texas) are you moving to? Depending on which part of Maryland you come to, gardening can be a lot like Dallas in the summer plus a cold wet winter. But we have fun here.

We have quite the do of a plant swap each Spring and Fall that can give you a running start for building a new garden. Plus check out the Potluck/seed exchange in January thread and come meet us.

You can have a hummingbird garden! We have ruby-throated hummingbirds from about June to October. Happy Gardening! Christy

Hey, welcome. I moved from southern california a few years ago and sympathize with the need to know where the nurseries are in a new location. One of my favorites is Thanksgiving Farms on Buckeystown Pike in Adamstown (they have a website). They grow their own plants, they sell in 6 inch pots and they have great stuff. If you like greenhouse gardening they have two huge greenhouses full of really interesting exotic plants. They are also open everyday except Christmas (I think). Also, do a search on the Washingtonian website for nurseries--I did several years ago and it gave me a lot of choices I would not have found otherwise.

In the DC suburbs my favorite nursery is Behnke's. Their selection is great.

I just moved two years ago and I love the feeling of starting in all over again on a new yard!

Oh, I love Thanksgiving Farms. But depending upon where you live, of course, for those out Annapolis/Bowie/Upper Marlboro way, that's a 3 hour trip. Worth it, I'd say, but sooo far! :)
