What camera do you love (or hate)

I am absolutely, positively going digital this summer.

I've been doing some research online and I think Canon has the best value for the features, but there is so much info to sift through.

Do many of you use a digital SLR? Is that the way to go? I want something that is easy to operate, has easily navigated menus with none of that symbol and cipher stuff.

But most of all, I want something that can produce colors that are true to the original. It would never have occurred to me that true colors would be a problem, but I borrowed my brother in law's camera to try it out and it didnt seem to see blue. Every color, from purple to brown to green, had whatever blue was present bled right out of them. I know he paid very little for it. It isn't a brand I've ever heard of. Still, I thought I should specifically ask how true your camera is in reproducing the color it sees.

I have enjoyed pulling up postings here and finding the poster has included some photos of their garden, and there are some gorgeous photos on this form, so I know many of you have digital cameras and are using them for much the same purpose I would. So do you love your camera? Does it have any shortcomings or bad features you would change? Thanks for your help. I would very much like to make this purchase before the week is out and before the daylilies start winding down. Carmellia

I've owned Canon, Nikon, Fuji and Olympus digital cameras and for point and shoot, I like Canon's powershot S series the best. For SLR, I would recommend Nikon. Here is a website that review cameras that might be help to you. They have test photos and review comments.

Carmellia, I'm Canon all the way. I have one of the S series that joyfulsnowflake mentioned. Mine is the S5 IS and I've had it since the firt of the year. It takes absolutely stunning photos and is fairly reasonably priced. The only negatives are that it is 'slow' meaning if you're shooting fast moving subjects or low light you may get some pretty blurry shots. So for birds, wild animals, and fast moving kids it's just so so. For gardens and scenery it's fantastic. The other negative is that the lens cover pops off easily. I also own two Canon SLRs, both older models (D30 and 10D) and they are great cameras too, both available second hand for reasonable prices. If I were buying a new Digital SLR, I'd be looking at the Canon Rebel. I have a Rebel 35 mm and loved it. It's just a backup now as I don't use film unless forced. But the digital Rebel looks great. I know a few people who have it and they say really good things.

Thanks for sharing your experience, jel48. I think I will take a trip up to National Camera Exchange in Burnsville. They seem to have a lot of Canon models there. If I can't find a Canon digital SLR that will use my AE-1 lenses, maybe I can sell them through the Exchange to help pay for something new.

I am itching to post photos of my flowers on the Daylily Forum and on Hortiplex too. I have lots of daylilies that they don't have photos for. Carmellia
