How about a large hosta, or maybe a bleeding heart. I had a large bleeding heart in Owatonna... it was easily 3 feet across and 4 feet tall after about 4 years. It was a good sized plant when I put it there. I had about a gallon size container that had been dug from an existing large plant in a former home. Either the hosta or the bleeding heart would do well in a part sun part shade spot.

I go with Joe Pye weed. But it dies back in the winter and takes until July to reach full size in summer so maybe not what you want. But it does get 6' tall and 3' wide. Likes shade too.

How about Yellow Wax Bells (Kirengeshoma palmata)...the foliage is cool, there are neat little yellow flowers, and it is a good formal to woodland transition. I have been wanting one but am lacking shade...

How about a short decorative fence, or a low (12 to 18")lannon stone wall? You would still have room for some beautiful blue hosta, or astilbe, or a mix of shade lovers. Pondy

I would vote for False Indigo, early blue flowers and nice foliage. It also has seed pods for fall interest. It should fill in that space nicely.

I'll vote for Mock Orange - will give you a beautiful pure-white-multiple blossoms with lovely fragrance, that will surround your area in June! I clip small branches of blooms to bring in too. Â:).

Walkers-by always asks where the wafts of lovely fragrance originate, from among my front garden patches!

Platycodon (Balloon Flowers) - I have Sentimental Blue(shorter) or Shell Pink (taller variety) - kids love to see the balloons that pop to bells - at times before their eyes!!! I have to stake the Shell Pink as they get heavy with balloons & opened blossoms. I planted some around the sign post in the curb for the neighborhood kids to enjoy - 1 boy sat & waited just to see one balloon pop a petal open!
