Have you tried Brugmansia? It should be root hardy in your region (or you could protect it when a frost is forecast.

Jasminum sambac, Cestrum nocturnum, Murraya paniculata, Mrytle communis and Carissa edulis. All mentioned
plants flourish beautifully at my house which is also in zone 9. Night jasmine does better when protected from the
afternoon sun. Beware of their gorgeous night scent!

You already probably know of Yucca rostrata. I refer to it as ~Lady of the Night~, because the impressive humongous
tall stalk with hundreds of flowers fully opens toward night fall and is an exciting sight to witness.
