HI, Peggy. My guess (based on experience) is that RR is not cane hardy; those five-footers will bite the dust this winter. Some gardeners, more energetic than I, might recommend laying and pinning the canes down and covering with mulch with an additional thick layer of straw. They might survive that way. Otherwise, mulch the plant heavily and rely on, i.e., hope for, new growth in the spring. RR is reasonably hardy, but all depends on the winter (temps, snow cover). Gary

This rose is often touted as being cane hardy down to zone 3, which is definitely not the case. Though, I have good success by laying the canes to the ground and placing a few sections of cut logs upon them and then keeping the plant heaped over with snow. Mouse bait placed nearby under a piece of plywood will keep the buggers from doing damage during winter. The rose has not yet attained any great height, though even at 6 ft tall it's a beauty having a long season show of high quality blooms and definitely worth the small amount of work given it. I like this rose so much I'm thinking of adding another.
