The rule is: 10 minutes' immersion in 10% bleach for tools and surfaces already washed and scrubbed clean of all easily visible dirt and other materials (oil, glue, blood, paint, etc...). If you suspect you didn't get all the crud off, use a higher percentage of bleach (20%) and a longer immersion time (20 minutes). Be sure to rinse thoroughly and dry your tools after this process.

bleach is said to corrode your tools...

it has been suggested that ammonia wont .. with same result
