mushrooms in our veggie beds?!

I'm not the gardener, I'm posting this for my DH, and this is only our 2nd year growing veggies. Our beds were created prior to last year's growing season by throwing down newspaper, compost, and wood chips. And probably garden dirt or something too? We had a decent garden last year. This spring he put down some more compost and 2 types of dirt. I think just basic dirt and the kind that has compost already mixed in (we didn't have enough). We planted last weekend. This weekend we had rain a large part of yesterday and this morning there are mushrooms all through our beds! What do we do?

Decaying wood is the food for those mushrooms - you often see them in a yard where a tree has died and there are decaying roots under the surface.

The wood chips in your bed are pretty large - the decaying process uses up the nitrogen, too. In time it will work itself out, but I wouldn't use wood chips anymore.

blackcats13- The mushrooms are just Nature breaking down the wood and not a problem.

Actually, on the surface of the soil the nitrogen comes from the air and not the soil, so not a problem. It's when the the carbon is in the soil that the soil nitrogen is tied up for a bit.

Thank you! DH says he's noticed A LOT of what seem to be dead millipedes around them. Not sure what that means, but all the plants seem ok. Well, the marigolds aren't exactly thriving, but the veggies seem ok so far.
