What is going on with my coreopsis?

21 years ago

We had a dry Spring in Missouri and now it's flaming hot. I've noticed that many of my perennials, particularly my moonbeam coreopsis, are just not up to snuff. I still don't have flowers and only one (out of a half dozen or so) look healthy. At the other end of the spectrum, I have asters the size of trash cans. I've had to shear them back once already to prevent early bloom. What gives?
