I wish I could be of some help, but I've never grown pumpkins. I will give it a try next year. Corn and tomatoes are great... but there's nothing more yummy than all the great things you can make with pumpkins.

I think 43 pumpkins from 2 plants is a success whether it's normal or not! Congratulations.. and for future reference... all vining veggies (well, fruit, actually) will take over your garden if you're not careful. Plant them on the edge so you can train the vines outwards. I had cucumbers this year and it took them a long time to get established (from seed), but around mid-July they took off and grew like crazy and I had about 50 cucumbers from 4 plants before frost hit.

I just think it is cool that you got a bunch of mini-pumpkins on a whim...congrats and enjoy the success!

I love reading your pumpkin success story. I tried to grow small baking pumpkins last year with no success. This year, I am attempting to grow mini pumpkins and ornamental gourdes in large pots with a trellis. So far, lot of blossoms, but who knows if I will get a fruit. I planted these two next to each other, so I might end up with a cross-pollination of some sort???

If I get some fruit, I will post a pic!

Good thinking Chris. Vining crops also go UP. My mother plants a cucumber outside her back door that gets very tall and you just reach in to pick them.
