We had recorded gusts of 55 mph this morning and while the wind didn't bring me anything it very kindly took every last late hanging and fallen leaf out of my yard and nowhere to be seen. No more raking!

Heh, we waited for this. Our silver maple hangs on to every last leaf until first snow otherwise! NOW we can rake and bury the beds!

Yahoo! (the exclamation, not the ISP) Every last yellow leaf is stripped of my witchhazel. It is so floriferous that it looks like a giant yellow fuzz ball! I hijacked my photo from the other thread. Taken last November, it didn't have as many flowers as now:

My Oaks are not phased by this wind- they are hanging on to their leaves till the freeze thaw erosion action takes hold and loosens it's grip till right after the first real pretty all white landscape snow fall, if the past holds true..... but- the wind noticed this defeat and brought in all of the neighbors leaves so it looked like it did it's job- at least when you look at my lawn....

I know exactly what you mean Julie: all my neighbors are still cutting their lawns regularly, but not me. Consequently, leaves blow right off their lawns and get stuck in mine. And that's good, wonderful in fact. Mulch for me if it gets too thick, but usually just right to mulch them right into the lawn. The worms love it! As I watch my neighbors vacuuming the leaves and putting dry fertilizer on their lawn, I put the raw materials for compost in mine. And the virtues seem unending.

I raked the biggest part of the leaves off my grass on Monday. I put 5 wheelbarrow full of them in the veggie garden (surrounded by 30" rabbit proof fencing) and Tom added the rest of them on Tuesday (the day before the night of the wind). So, those are all sitting nicely there in the veggie garden, waiting to be worked into the compost pile. Unfortunately for me, the ones that were still on the trees at that point are now in some other state....

Tom took inventory today.... he picked up two of our lightweight birdbaths out of a neigbor's yard, same for a fruit 'feeder'. A new 'ghostly' halloween flag that I bought on sale a couple of days before halloween is now history as well. Probably, it's in that other state with the leaves that were still on the trees the first part of the week...

I didn't lose anything, 'cause the wind always blows out/up here. I'm used to it (and all the neighbors' trash too).

Them Bunnies are quick arn't they! I have a little more compassion for them when winter is long in the tooth- but there is plenty still to eat all over!
