Flowers do grow in zone 3. I've had great success, at our cabin which is just into zone three, growing pretty much everything I grow at home here in zone 4. Actually there are zone 5 rated plants growing at my zone 3 cabin. The only thing different is that sometimes they don't mature soon enough to collect seed. However, this year I had plants flowering sooner at the lake than I did here at home, so go figure.

Take your seeds with you and try. I'm betting you'll be able to grow a lot of what you currently have.

Also, my aunt lives northwest of Bemedji and she has beautiful flower gardens and she's definitely in the heart of zone 3.

Thank you for the note Sandy. I looked at your trade list and wow-you really get into it.
I hope to be able to get a rain garden dug and filled this fall yet but winter is approaching fast. It looks like the week after next the temps won't be much above freezing.
I think the lot I'm buying is mostly sand. I plan on starting seeds again this winter but am not sure where to put them next year.

I have a wildflower at my cabin in zone three. The only problem I have is deer. So if you will be where there are deer roaming around choose from plants that deer don't like.

I have used the scatter in the fall method to get a totally wild garden on the mound for our septic system.

Believe it or not I can recommend a gorgeous vigorous rose for you too - it's called "Mary Queen of Scots". Beautiful large bush, but takes pruning very well, small lovely leaves, flowers very very early with simple pink and white but HIGHLY fragrant sweet blooms. Thorns are tiny and soft. This is a really ancient type (spinosissima Scottish Rose)and I love mine. I'm in the Twin Cities and this rose has NO freeze burn, reddens and perks up before almost anything in my yard and blooms in early May! I believe it may be hardy down into zone 2 even!
