One more list request...

...please! :) I was hoping to find a site that listed hosta sizes at maturity if one exists. I would really appreciate it!

Thanks!

forget about 'planning' the garden ...

find out if they are small .. medium .. or large... and insert them in the ground ... or the driveway ...

large in back.. medium in the middle.. and small/mini up front ...

beyond that... anyone who thinks.. that with magic numbers.. they can PLAN a garden that never requires moving plants is .. well ... mistaken ...

you really need no more info than S/M/L/XL ...

and no matter what list you find... i can find someone who has one twice as big.. and 10 people who cant grow it to the listed size ... it all depends on how well YOU can grow it .. in YOUR garden ...

ruby .. you are in one of the meccas of hostadom .. up there in the further great white north ... get to a local hosta garden ... and see what they look like in person ....

    good luck

All of your points are very well taken! I guess the only reason I asked is because I will have slightly limited space where I plan to plant these babies....but I will try to be less "planned" about this and more relaxed as I am with my backyard.

    Thanks!

Ruby, the best hosta garden I ever saw was very small, she used small plants to create a simple jewel. Absolutely no large or extra large hosta, every plant to the scale of this fairly small yard.

If you get crazy like us in a small space in 3-5 years it will look crap!

Good ole Ken has 5 acres, I have 20, we just opened up an area of about an unplanted acre to increase from maybe 5 acres to 6 acres over planted.

BTW Ken is running out of room for all his hosta and conifers, next he will be on the trellis gardening forum.

Oh...LOL!! At this point I'd be happy with one acre! I will do my best with my small space. I have done the overplanted thing and it frustrated me to no end. Just this past weekend we dug out most of that garden and relocated plants into better places...all the while building a deck over where the old "frustrating garden" once was. I was so happy to see that space get covered up.

But I digress. I appreciate the input I get here. This is by far the friendliest (if not most helpful) forum I have ever been to.

    Thanks!
