Moongold and Sungold are the standbies. I use to tend them in a small orchard at the U of M Rosemount Ag station 25 years ago. They can be very prolific, but as all apricots, they bloom very early and can be susceptible to late frosts. you need two different kinds for pollination.

I have Moongold, Sungold, and Manchurian. I have never gotten better than mediocre harvests from the Sungolds and o.k. harvests from the Moongolds. If spring pollination conditions are good I get an incredible harvest from the Manchurians - wheelbarrow loads - more than I and the squirrels could ever possibly use.

I get an excellent harvest from the Manchurians on average every four years or so. Other years the harvests range from nothing to enough for some pies and preserves. The seeds germinate readily and the seedlings are fairly fast-growing. I have volunteers pop up every year, but not enough to consider them to be invasive. I have never had any apricot trees of any of the varieties freeze out on me.

Because the Manchurians can be so prolific, I only bother to harvest from the Moongolds and Sungolds out of desperation when I am having a bad apricot year. I am generally not impressed with the Moongolds and Sungolds, especially considering return on investment, but if they help to pollinate the Manchurians, then that's enough justification for me to leave them around. I paid a buck a seedling for the Manchurians from a mail order supply - an unbelievable return on investment for them.
