irises

I bought a couple of bags of Dutch iris bulbs. The instructions say to plant the bulbs in the spring after the ground warms to about 50 degrees. Then it says that they bloom in early summer. Is this true? If I plant these bulbs now, can I expect irises in my garden in a couple of months? Or do the instructions mean that the flowers will bloom NEXT summer? I always thought irises needed to be planted in the fall. Any input would be greatly appreciated! THANKS!
