Last year, I had mine planted around a telephone pole and cable wire pole in our back yard and they grew up it as far as they could hold on, probably 8 or 10 feet high. THEn, one morning we looked out and they (mainly the flowers) were all gone!!! In our case, it was Bambi and her friends. We found tracks all over, so this year, I planted them there again just to see what happens. Dumb, huh?

I am growing morning glories on my new trellis I started them late and they are only two inches high right now, might be too late. Anyway, we have a bunny family living in the woods behind my house so after reading this post i'm assumming they will come to eat mine. If I encased the bottom of the trellis in chicken wire would that keep them out? The MG's would probably grow on the wire too though.

A good-sized cutworm or two could totally eat a small seedling without problems. Happens in my garden quite frequently. Try digging in the dirt at the base of where your plants were and inch or so deep and outward three or four inches. If you come across a small caterpillar type of worm, tan to brown to greenish in color that curls up when touched, that's your culprit.

You're not talking about planting morning glory, an beautiful, but very invasive plant? I am confused. This vine is taking over my property, I am at war with it.
