Atlock Farm, other nurseries...

hello,

someone on a thread mentioned Atlock Farms in Somerset County. I have their address and phone # but couldn't find a web site.

Does anyone know if they carry a good selection of herbs?

Am doing a nursery day this week-end - if anyone knows any other places not too far from Central Jersey, particularly for herbs, I'd appreciate knowing.

ellen, I am looking at an ad for Littlebrook Farm Herbs, 1146 Lakewood-Farmingdale Rd (Rt 547), Howell Township. Sez it's 4 miles south of 195. They are having a "Herb Plant Sale" with workshops and classes until this Saturday (5/28). Hours are 10 - 5, I don't think they are open on Sunday. I'm going to try to head down there on Saturday to check them out.

Atlock doesn't seem to have a website. I was at Atlock this weekend and again yesterday. They are check or cash only. They have some herbs but not as many as some places. I wasn't looking specifically but I remember seeing a few basils, rosemary, chives, probably thyme. Could be more. Beautiful nursery to visit though and some nice hard to find stuff. What are you looking for? I saw more herbs at Kaufell Gardens this weekend for $2.50 each. A good variety, mints, oregano, many thymes, basils, heliotrope, bay leaves, lavender, sages, mexican tarragon, scented geraniums, heirloom tomatoes, curry and more. You could hit both places on the same day. Otherwise, I am not an expert on nurseries in Central NJ.

not much in the way of herbs at Atlock. fancy unusual plants, and expensive. if you get on their mailing list you will be the semi-annual recipient of left-wing political satire and a riff on all the sexually suggestive plant names the owner can think of - not really what I wanted my children getting out of the mailbox.

You might consider trying Leaping Lizards in Basking Ridge - last weekend they seemed to have a nice selection of herbs.

Spooky Brook Nursery has a nice selection of herbs they are in Somerset.

the mother of all herb sources in NJ is well-sweep herb farm in port murray. they also do mail order -- gazillions of species, inlcuding about 65 varieties of lavender, more than 3 dozen basils, etc. etc. also unusual stuff. worth a trip.
