ps. if its in a bad spot, you can move it, just be careful not to disturb roots to much and water

Sunflower.

Well it looks the same but has grown another 10 inches in the stem and something likes eating edges off of the leaves during the night. Still no typical sunflower head.it appears to be the only sunflower seed which took. I believe chipmunks and squirrels dug the rest out.

Did you plant any sunflower seeds in that area?

They usually start out with a little bit of red in the stems/branches when they're young. They're edible and very nutritious. A bit bitter. Saute in a bit of olive oil with onions and garlic and it makes a nice side dish for fresh fish. Most people boil amaranth. If you really like garlic, here's a garlic and amaranth recipe.

Well sunflower would make sense. I planted three different variety sf seeds throughout the yard. Like I said before some sort of critter ate the majority of them and any c. maximo seeds that were out there. This appears to be the only one that took.

The squirrels plant sunflower seeds all over my yard - they get them from my birdfeeder. I just leave them alone, usually; they don't amount to much but they do usually manage to throw a couple flowers, if the deer don't eat them first.
