The flowers do get cut for florist bunches (Zingiber zerumbet 'Spectabilis') and for making various products, so there is probably no harm in doing so provided the leaves are untouched.

If you plan to plant it out it probably needs a plot to itself and regular supervision to remind it not to 'rule the world'.
