Greetings. That smell could be a wild rose. It's that time of year, they are all over the nj shore, and they just reek of awsome oder.--- If you REALLY want to be engulfed by the scent of wild rose, try the park at Cape May Point. This is the perfect time, and it is just not to be believed.

The humidity we're suffering through enhances the fragrance. I forget where I was driving last week, but the fragrance from the roses along the road was so overpowering that it finally began to give me a headache - it's still fantastic though.

It could be a mock orange; they have white flowers and smell wonderful. My neighbor has one and it just stopped blooming. The blooms only last about 2 weeks. The smell is very sweet. Wild roses; those rampant white ones grow on the roadside and are an introduced species. They are very invasive and can spread by seeds. How about the honey locust trees? They have a smell too.

Honeysuckle is another "big stink" right now, but the one with carrying power is multiflora rose, curse the name. Did you ever notice that the three most amazing big stinks, or shall we say big beautiful stinks are all aggressive invaders: in spring autumn olive, followed in June by rose and honyesuckle. I can't put mock orange in the above group, it doesn't seem to take over the landscape, and it smells best of all.

A little bit of all three: honeysuckle is in full bloom right now everywhere and the big reason hummingbirds aren't at my feeders at this time.

Honey locust trees are just finishing up and multiflora rose is rampant and fragrant.
