strange triangular divets in backyard

I keep finding in my yard circular/cylindrical - actually conical to be completely accurate. It looks like something is digging them. It's got to be at night, becaue I never see the culprit. Today's discovery was the worst yet. There are probably 20-25 inch deep conical divets in my backyard grass.

I live in that Atlanta area. Anybody know what animal would do that?
