I'm glad you use a wood stove, and not a fireplace - tulip tree is poplar (populoides spp.), and tends to pop a lot (when burned). I'm with you on wishing it had dropped on the rose, makes life easier, when trying to remove a pest plant; a brush hook (billhook) used in winter makes fairly quick work of multiflora roses, without too many ouches - it cuts it back far enough for a good spring cleaning to remove it.

People laugh and roll their eyes when I tell them I love to burn the tulip in the wood stove, but they don't have a clue as to how much heat it puts out. I've got a small Jotul stove and, for some reason, the tulip is great in it. It seasons quickly after being cut and lights easily.

Also, if some of the pieces are too large to fit in the stove, tulip is easy for a woman "of a certain age" to split. The young man who takes care of my wood supply for me (bless him, even though he, too, shakes his head at my desire for tulip) has learned to cut the wood shorter and narrower than for a normal wood stove.

I don't think there's anything wrong with burning tulip wood (as long as it is in a stove or enclosed fireplace). It is easy to split, does season quickly, and is light - which make an ideal wood for many people to use. It just like to pop a lot.
