The dang thing captures my heart . .I want to reach out and pet it. . .lol. .I never had a hosta effect me that way. . confessions of a hostaholic. . .lol

    It is very beautiful.

Very nice! I like the shiny, dark leaves. May have to find it and give it a try.

Nice! I'm hoping you will share more photos of your hosta garden. On your home page, it says you have over 1000? I'd love to see them.

How is the substance? Yours looks perfect, but when I checked it out on the hosta library, many of the photographs showed slug damge. At least, I presume they were slugs.

That is gorgeous. Do you know what a mature size will be?

Does anyone have Lakeside Looking Glass, to compare? (I am going shopping tomorrow where the nursery has LLG but not Obsession.)

ninamarie, can't say I've had much problem with slug damage on Obsession, but sometimes a spring frost will nip her on the side facing the sun. She's in direct line with the rising sun. She's a sport of Sparkling Burgundy and has more substance than SB.

manyhosta, I was told that she would get around 18 x 30w

anitamo, I just checked my data base and am blown away. . I am up to 1508 and I don't have all my this year hosta entered. . I know y'all have heard this before and probably said it yourself. . I don't know when and how that happened. . I thought I was around 1200 or so tops. .
AND IT'S ALL YOU GUYS FAULT! Parading all those beauties in front of a body. . day and night. . tempting, teasing, enabling. . (are you all ashamed yet? lol)
Boy, I really am shocked. I never intended collecting more than a hundred or so. . I only started with hostas to get some exercise. . . I've run amok for sure. . .
Whoa. . no more for me this year. . .I don't care what you guys show me. .I'm almost definitely, kinda positive that is all for me. . .yep, I'm a brick. . well maybe sandstone. .

Thanks for sharing -- I am getting Obsession in a trade this week -- I am so excited -- if I have something you don't and would like to trade, let me know -- The reason I wanted Obsession is because it is so fitting of my Hosta addiction.

    Happy Day to all!

So that is what it looks like at maturity. Mine is slow, but I really like it. The flowers are low on the mound. I had about decided it is going to keep the spoon shaped leaves it has right now. I was even thinking about using it as an edger, but if it ever grows up, it will be showcased. This is why I keep coming to this forum so I can see the potential for my hostas. I also would love to see more of your beautiful hostas, Sydney.
In 08 I was so obsessed by Obsession that I didn't notice the visitor until I looked at the picture.

Sydney, I hope mine looks like yours soon, but I wonder if I have it in too much sun. Maybe it should me moved to a shadier area...

Ok guys. . I just came in from obsessing again.. lol
I wanted fresh facts, not something I wrote last year. Today Obsession measured 43 inches across and a tad over 17 inches. Her bloom is just starting to open and it reaches 18 inches. I have to say that mine has pretty darn good substance to her. I checked my database and I got her in 2004 from Direct Source hosta.
Most of us want the most bang for our bucks and we don't have a money tree in our back yard. We agonize over our choices and wish we did have a money tree when those coveted catalogs start coming in the winter. . lol
I guess I said all that to say this. . If Obsession died I would replace her in a heartbeat. I honestly think she is one of the loveliest hostas I have. I started to obsess over her about three years ago. I love shiny and dark hostas. . but she is more than that. There is a quality that does not seem to be captured by the camera. She looks like her leaves are satin and yet when I touch her she has strength in her leaf that surprises me. She has these lovely understated yellow lines going through her that brings out the dark shine of her leaf even more. I haven't given her any babying, and she doesn't have the most ideal spot in my garden. Those of you that are going to get her, please let me know how she performs for you. I really hope she performs in other gardens because I think she's special.
AND. . if anyone but a hostaholic read this post they would think I'm crazy. . . lol

    Mary52 Your baby is beautiful!

manyhosta. . I have a Lakeside Looking Glass. I just moved it to more sun last year because it wasn't performing where it was. I'll hold my opinion till LSLG gets some advantage. . but right now I don't like it anywhere near as much as Obsession.

That is a real beauty! I would obsess too, if I had one!
