Anyone know what bug laid this?

I walked outside this morning to water my plants when I saw this thing in the picture. It is a little over an inch long and it actually looks like a caterpillar, but it is mounted to the wall of my house. I don't want to destroy it until I know if it's from a bad bug or a good one. I'm new to gardening, so I don't really know what is what yet :-/
Can anyone help me?
Oh and I live in Las Vegas :-D
