There's no harm in trying to plant them out now. I really don't know if it will work or not though. Are the bulbs still firm and healthy looking? The reason for planting tulips in the fall is that they grow their root system then and are ready to bloom by spring. I doubt that they would bloom this year due to the lack of roots, but maybe they'd survive and be ok for next year.

Hello Brian, your tulip bulbs will need a cold dormancy period, I had some daffodils and tulips that I had no room to plant, so I managed to plant them (feb 1st) into pots 6-7 per pot and I put them in my "plant fridge". They should be ready May 1 to put onto my steps. They need at least 12 weeks of cold dormancy. You can try this now but they wouldn't be ready untill near the end of June, worth a try otherwise you may need to toss them. Janet
