I also had poor results with the calendulas this year, as well as cleome, I am attributing this to the weather changes and the many inches of rain we received here this year.
Hopefully next year will be better.

I planted two kinds of calendula this year, and the shorter ones bloomed just fine. I was despairing of my taller calendula ever blooming this year, and just stood by helplessly as the leaves and plants grew larger and larger. Now I have 2 1/2 - 3 foot tall plants with HUGE flowers on them.

So I figure it was worth the wait. But next year, I am going to read that seed packet a little more carefully!

My tall calendulas took a while to bloom but they are fine. They are a little floppy in morning sun only. I'm going to try again next year.

Gee whiz, yours should have bloomed by now. That's suprising. What do the folks on the Annuals forum think? I would be interested in hearing the answer.

My calendulas have done amazingly well this year unlike years past. One thing I did different this hear was that I did NOT fertilize the ground before planting. I did have to water a time or two but other than that (and picking spent blooms) they have been trouble free.

Sorry to hear your calendulas didn't bloom. Mine always come back and I'm not sure why.
11 years ago, when we moved to this house, I didn't like the calendula's and tried to kill them off. But it didn't work. I decided they liked being here and they were to be here. So since then, I let them grow where ever they come up (within reason) But you know what? I could spend a lifetime dead heading those plants!!
Mine grow basically in full sun...if that helps out.
