Eric, are you sure about the hardiness info on those? You may want to double-check the tags, and/or google to see what their hardiness rating is.

The reason I say that is that I worked part-time at a garden center this summer... and I know that ours were labeled either zone 7 or zone 8 because I wrote "Not Hardy in Our Zone!" on all of those pots in paint pen. We also told people to be sure to bring them inside for the winter if they wanted to try to keep them... so you may want to double-check!

The reported hardiness data doesn't come from the plant tags, but from David Francko's Palms Won't Grow Here and Other Myths (he's a university based horticulturalist in the Cincinnati area). Other sources have varying zone ratings listed.

Anyway, it's worth a shot next year with at least one plant - if it doesn't survive the winter I'm out a grand total of $2.50.

Did you plant it out already this fall, or are you going to overwinter it indoors and plant it in the spring?
