New purchases today

I can't stop buying!! Today I restrained myself to 3.

Mighty Mouse, Sun Worshipper, & Blueberry Muffin

My husband proceeded to go out and count how many other hostas still need to be planted! I have 17 others to plant, in addition to 18 seedlings I grew. In my defense, I had rotator cuff surgery and haven't been able to plant for 2 months, so I buy instead, lol. At least I got all my spring purchases in the ground before the surgery :)

Love your Blueberry Muffin! Mine didn't a single new leaf this year, only roots.

Mighty Mouse is on my front porch, I usually forget to water it. Despite that, it's growing like a weed!

Your new ones look very healthy!

I just purchased 3 Mighty Mouse from Hallson and they are the cutest darn things! I share your affliction. I go to the nursery for 1 thing and must come out with a hosta! Or 2!

I confess, i picked up a Revolution,Autumn frost, and a American Hero Thursday ...ssshhhhh

I was real happy with the American Hero, it was the smallest plant they had, but I found one with four eyes.. That should outshine the bigger one eyed plants...

I won't tell anyone leafwatcher. I was buying tons of hostas in late August early September last year. I was pleasantly surprised how different they looked this spring.

My spreadsheet that lists all my hosta purchases is the only one that I don't have a total column for price paid, I don't even want to know! I'll tally it up in January when we do our taxes. At least then, it won't hurt so bad knowing that I can write it a portion of it off.

More confessions, LOL, I did that too last year :) What did you get?

Last weekend, I bought a mature Abiqua Drinking Gourd and a pretty green & gold NOID from a rummage sale. The lady mentioned that she was moving and I asked if the hosta might be for sale. Sure enough, they were. (Before asking about the hosta, I asked if she was the homeowner or a renter.)

She seemed very pleased that the hostas were going to a good home.

Anyway, it was a hot day but we had to get them that day. Dug them up & replanted that day and, luckily, the very next day the weather turned much cooler. Roped & taped the leaves before we dug them up. The hostas looked so good (other than a couple of broken leaves) that I removed the props yesterday.

Just wish I could find Holy Mole & Plantaginea!

Plantaginea is on my list too, ci_lantro. None of my go-to online or local nurseries has it.

Like you Wendy, I've been out of commission in the garden =( I managed to injure my wrist/hand somehow. I confess to having brought home Dragon's Eye, Restless Sea, and a baby Lakeside Black Satin last week... and Aomori Select this week. It's kind of fun to do late season hosta shopping and see what others seem to have passed over this year.

Here's the bloom on Aomori Select, no full pics yet:

Hey Gesila, how can you write off a portion of your hosta purchases? Do you have a business? I wish I could figure out a way to do it, because I spent a fortune this year on hostas and other plants!

    Karen,

We own two businesses and have tons of space dedicated to a large home office where I have employees work plus clients visit. Plus our home is a duplex so we have to claim rental income.

Downside to that is that there might be a capital gains tax when we sell, but that is usually lower than income tax.

I always tell my clients to keep all their receipts on anything they spend for their home, you never know when you might need them in the future to adjust the basis of your home.

Uh oh, Wendy. I found an on-line place that has Plantaginea...and Holy Mole, Invincible, Montana Aureomarginata, Moonlight Sonata...all the hostas at the top of my want list.

Here is a link that might be useful: Made in the Shade

Thanks ci_lantro! Do I dare order more? I can't just order Plantaginea, especially since they also have 4 others on my want list~ Blue Hawaii, Dance With Me, Deliverance, & Frosted Dimples.
    Thanks for the link!

Thanks for the info, Gesila--unfortunately we don't qualify. My mom owns a bed and breakfast and she can claim her landscaping expenses. She can also order wholesale hostas, and has found a pretty good source with really large plants. She gifted me a couple of divisions, and I was really pleased with them. So I guess I'll be satisfied with that.

Well, I did it, Wendy. Ordered Holy Mole, Invincible, Plantaginea & Moonlight Sonata. Really wanted the fragrant ones but I exercised a little restraint & skipped on Montana! Hoping that I get a few blooms next summer by getting them in the ground this year. Shipping cost seemed reasonable--if the plants are decent sized, that is. Less than $8 for four hosta.

Plants won't ship until next Monday. :(

Karen, hold onto your receipts anyway! When (if) you sell, you can deduct the costs for trees, shrubs, perennials from your profit just as you can for other improvements for tax purposes.

ci_lantro, post pictures when you get your plants!
I am holding off for now, if only to appease the husband.
Once I get all my current ones planted, I will place an order :)

Thanks for the info, Cyn! I have NO plans to move from this place--we've put too much into it, and they'll have to haul me outta here in a box!

Wendy next time he decides to go out and count plants go with him and give him a shovel. Did this with my wife one time and she has never said another word about what I bought or what was waiting to be planted. Just a thought lol.
