Hosta abuse!

I split and moved some hosta plants about a month ago, and although I read the instructions here, I did not follow the idea to tape the leaves up. So they all layed there looking kind of sad. I did dig up all the weeds from their new bed, and watered them daily for a week. Then...I kind of ignored them.

Imagine my surprise to find a mess when I checked them today!

Nothing but weeds! So I bought some mulch (on sale for $2 a bag...woo hoo!) And I dug out the weeds. And I put down some mulch. This is a picture from before I finished the mulch.

Although the hosta still look very sad, there are some very beautiful little baby leaves!

And....twelve years ago we moved here from out of state. I brought a little pot of chives from a beloved friend. Over the years, those chives have improved many dishes, but I did not see any chives when I first dug up the bed. And today, among the hosta and weeds, were my chives. Just a few, but they are there! It made me feel so happy!

My plan is to dig up more hosta in the spring, and spread them around the yard. If I move them in the summer again, I will definitely tape them up!

In the meantime, I will keep checking here, and reading and learning. I can only dream of having a garden as beautiful as some that I see posted! However, the reason I love hosta so much is that whether I plant them in a beautiful arrangement or not, they perform, year after year, bringing beauty to my yard.
