Buddleias and Chrysanthemum - no shoots

I have posted this message on the Perennials Forum as well:

I would like to know if anyone up north growing these two plants have any spring shoots yet. This has been a very unusual spring in that we had very warm temperatures quite early. People were in their shorts etc. and I went out and pruned my buddlieas and my Sheffield Pink mum as I usually do. We later had some freezing weather, even some snow, and now that it has warmed up again, there is no sign of new growth on any of these plants. Is it too early to give up on them? I am beginning to think that I was premature in cutting them back and killed them. Things are so unusual that I don't know whether they are late or not. What do you think?
