wonderfull laelia charles! I have one veichtiana that is still young, i keep it outside too. Unfortunatelly she often falls down from the pot when it is windy but thanks got she has firmly roots. I have lost almost all of my collection since two years ago I have been ill for 4 months in hospitall during summer till fall and no one could water the orchids only 3 survived. Now I have started a new collection trying to collect all the ones that can grow outside year round on my balcony. I am keeping the plants on the dry side now that it's winter we have temps from 12-13 degrees during day at 3-4 degrees at night can you tell me your culural condictions? thanks a lot Marco
Thanks Marco. Lets see, since I live on the dise of a hill the oak trees that that are growing around our house does 2 things it keeps the temps down and ont get alot of direct sunlight. It really doesnt get that cold for a long period of time, thats why everything is outside. Its about in the high 50's now, summer 80-100 or so winter still in the 40's-to 50's sometimes in the low 40's,but the trees tend to make it not so cold or hot, dpending what season.90% of my plant are in some kind of rock.Yes even about 3/4 of my cymbidiums. Its small crushed granite/red lava rock.It was really strang tho,we had a big freeze a few yrs.back an most of the plants I lost were in pots and all the mountd ones on the trees made it thru.Hope this helps somhow. Charles B.
wow Charles it seems you live near a paradise!!!! Thanks for your info, I have a question left I am really curious to know the fragrance of this laelia. I have been told that the veichtiana smells like licorice is that true? what an amazing smell for a flower!!!
Another gorgeously vibrant pink and violet display, whoo-hoo! and Fantastic!!!!
All the orchids outside???? Must be ideal! We're having record breaking cold this winter! It'd be lovely to have a panorama of your orchid garden here at the forum...Nothing but a snow garden here!
