I've never had a scented Cym before and can't grow Cyms at all here (sob!). Those are all so beautiful!!

That Cym. Nut would probably do well here, as being in the north, I'd keep it inside all the time. Where did you find it? I'd love one of those (Although I promised myself no more, as they do take up a lot of room). :)

Carol, I have had Nut for so long, I do not even remember where I bought it - I believe, a local nursery
I remember seeing seedlings at Kawamoto....I just checked: they indeed sell the Nut, 2 inch for 6 bucks - that is pretty good. Nut started blooming early for me, in about 4 inch pot. Well recommended!

Amazingly beautiful - I'm thinking I should start going for warmer growing cymbs since I don't have a really great cool grow area...they may be happier with the naturally slightly (but not sufficient for cool growing) cooler temps indoors during the winter. How cool does it get in the winter for you, olya, and do you keep watering the entire year without pause?

I believe that the plant in the bottom photo is Cym. Eastern Promise "RW Lau". I also grow this one & it is definitely one of my favorites. It has one of the Chinese cymbidiums as one parent, maybe Cym. sinense. Thanks for posting your photos!!

The last plant is Cymbidium Nut (not Cym. Eastern Promise) - you are correct about sinense parentage, it is sinense x Red Beauty.
I am glad you mentioned this name though- I have a NOID seedling that does look like either Nut or Cym. Eastern Promise. I looked up Eastern Promise online - looks beautiful!

Central Florida has some weird climate...It gets cold, but not for long. It is not unusual for nights to dip into low 40s, but only for a few early hours. I brought in my cyms once this winter as it was below freezing
I think the main problem with growing cymbidiums in Florida is that it gets hot in summer, and nights are very warm.

I slow down on watering in winter, just as with the rest of the plants. I water roughly once a week...

Cena, I cannot grow western grown Cyms here in Florida..I would love to, and boy, would I order a lot from CA growers, as there are some amazing cool growing cymbidiums out there...Instead, I research and only buy warm growing varieties - otherwise, they will never bloom here :(
Some friends I know have cyms here that are only useful as foliage plants - they refuse to flower..

Cymbidium nut is very fragrant!. I have two varieties. The first is from Everglades orchids, and is very tall (32 inches) and a lovely reddish chocolate.
