Horrible Nightmare

OMG, this is twice I've had this similarly-themed nightmare.

Here it is:

My neighbor is doing some major landscaping/hardscaping (this time, it was the neighbor to the north, last time, the south). She was very kind and offered to have her guys do some work in our yard so there would be some continuity. That's nice, cuz I had always wanted some big boulders and a slight slope in the garden.

I come out after a few hours and I'm loving the look of my new beds. The designer is on site, as is the heavy equipment guys, but the actual landscaping crew is gone....foreman included.

Then I realize:

Where in the HE#* are my hostas?

There are none in pots, none sitting in the shade, none in the garage. WHERE ARE ALL MY HOSTAS? I ask the designer and I kinda get a look like 'what hostas?' I'm thinking, 'are ya f-ing kidding me? there were 400+ of them!" She says 'I don't know anything about any hostas, so I'll call the landscaper'. I said you better get him back here or he's going to be writing me a VERY large check and that won't even begin to replace some of the mature size ones I had.

He comes back, said something to the effect of, 'well, they were dormant, so I just tilled them in' [my thought: are ya f-ing kidding me?] he continues, 'besides, they were bolting'. This time, I said to him, 'are you f-ing kidding me? They're HOSTAS! They don't BOLT!' (incidentally, in my dream (and in real life) I do say eff-ing, not the f-bomb).

I told him I had an inventory list AND recent photos to prove the number and size of plants I had and a conservative estimate of the check he would have to write me to replace them is around $7500. Of course, he says something like, 'I wasn't required on this job to preserve any existing plants, so I didn't.' I remember briefly thinking, 'well, it'll be fun to start from scratch', but I was so traumatized by it that I think I forced myself to wake up.... either that, or my bladder forced me to wake up.

So, what does all this mean? Do my neighbors hate my hostas? Do I have a secret desire to start over so I can do more hard structure?

Seriously, this dream is rather traumatizing! Calgon, take me away!

Oh dear!!!!! You have it bad, the Hostaholic Syndrom. You worry too much about what can happen to your hosta and that could be why you have dreamed about them.

I have the ability to change my dreams if I awaken and don't like where a dream is going. Not always but sometime.

Dreams are just dreams they don't mean anything. They are just your mind taking what has recently been happening and juxtaposing all that information sometimes irrationally. However, the feelings you have in your dreams (worrying about your plants), reflect the feelings you have when you are awake. Take a deep breath. Your plants are fine.

Oh rats! There after I read the first sentences, after I read about the free large boulders, and 'Oh NO' no more hostas, said to myself, looks like a great story. I got myself a new cup of coffee and something to eat, settled down, and then --- it was only a dream!

I agree it is good to learn how to change the outcome of dreams. I learned it once, but then had no bad dream recently, probably no longer care about bad dreams.

Dreams, particularly recurring dreams, are often our nocturnal way of working through conflicts and unresolved issues. The key to interepreting them is to realize that there are no outside pieces - there really weren't any hostas or yard or neighbor or landscapers - everything in the dream is a part of you.

A Gestalt therapist would help you sort our what part of you is the irate gardener, what part is the hostas, the hardscape, the "landscaper", the neighbor... and how those parts are in conflict.

(on a side note... it is amazing how often in dreams that people like landscapers, mechanics, managers, DMV workers, cops, etc. stand it to bring out our conflicts with God/nature/fate and the unreasonable curves life tosses at us...)

One reasonable interpretation would be that the hostas and garden are the part of you that is your current life, including home, marriage, children, work... always with the possibility of improving, adjusting, doing a major refurbishing, or dumping it all and starting over again. Anyone who is married with kids must have days when that lingering underlying question rises, even if we don't ever let ourselves say it out loud - "what if I just dumped all of this and started over?!"

Another reasonable possibility is that you had too much pepperoni pizza too close to bedtime...

Hmmmm--"..might be an undigested bit of beef, a piece of cheese (just might be a 'pizza', afterall)
or...a fragment of an underdone potato.."

    Or,

the "95%" of your hosta having gone dormant after a short vacation you took? It had to have made
a startling impression that played out after you fell asleep--methinks! You can be sure, it would have
had that effect on me, if I were in your place--that and the pizza and potatoes!!hehehe

"Take two aspirins, and call me in the morning"!

I think it is a subliminal message telling you to double the number of your hostas....just in case...;)
