This is not a cheap proposition and requires a small engineering feat. Firstly the digging must all be done by hand. Usually a hole will have to be dug outside your house and workers will break a hole through the foundation to the basement to carry the dirt out in buckets. Next the
house foundation will need to be extended down by pouring concrete in sections so the house doesn't collapse. Good luck.

Since you are in a wheelchair asecond level would not make sense to me is there a way to add on to your existing house so it would be the same level all the way through.

Ya, guys, I've considered the expense as first deterrent lol! I have enough room for myself on the main level but i'm considering when down the road with any luck, I have grandchildren, and they need more room to be kids...I also have been to a couple friends' houses and they have elevators....I already expanded the house to the max of the property allowance after I had my accident and ended up in a wheelchair so that isn't an option...maybe if I win the lottery! lol I'll keep you updated if I decide to go ahead

It is not a cheap project, but many of our clients love their newly acquired space. We wrote a more in depth article about the entire process. It includes a link to a 90-second time-lapse video which shows a complete basement dig out. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/20140715182008-18934924-have-you-exhausted-your-home-s-expansion-options-consider-digging-down
