Soaking Sweet Corn Seed

I know there was a thread with some posts about it a few weeks ago.But I'm not going to take the time to look for it. I thought I would post my unscientific results. I planted 2 rows ten ft long each of 3 varieties. All are supposed to be cool soil tolerant. Montauk and Sweet Rhythm (both treated) and King Kool(untreated). I soaked the King Kool for 12 hours and didn't soak the treated varieties. Planted all at the same time two weeks ago today. Each variety emerged the same day. Ten days after planting. And each has shown great vigor so far. Of course the soil temps are warmer but the air temps were mid 40's yesterday morning and supposed to me low to mid 40's in the morning. I checked the rows good last evening and out of the two 30' rows 24" apart it looks like maybe 2 seeds didn't germinate. So didn't notice any difference in those I soaked and the varieties I didn't. And without soaking/non soaking the same variety I can't really say it helped or didn't. I have seen several that feel it really helps and I have never pre-soaked much before. The last few years I have had issues with germination when planting sweet corn early. And this year might be a bad one to judge by. And the choice of varieties may of made a difference. Johnny's has a nice comparison chart where they list each variety they sell and the germination temps for each. I know I will probably continue to plant the cool soil tolerant varieties here for my early corn and then the Mirai varieties for my later corn. Just thought this might be of interest to some growing sweet corn. Jay
