Correct name is amabile. Dyslexia showing through again. The flower buds look like they mean business.

The unopened buds get so heavy they keel over from their weight.

This is a beautiful species, yes I was going to question you on the amavile, too much latin influence where b sounds like v??!!

I'm not dyslexic and the Latin influence takes me to Taco Bell but not much further. The 'v' is situated next to the 'b' on the keyboard. That is the reason.

Looks like the developing buds on D. thyrsiflorum - I'd bet they are pretty closely related. The D. amabile is one that I've thought about getting - guess I'll have to give in.

Sambac that's an incredible specimen. What did it in? I'm devastated when I loose a big plant. Does not happen that often but Masdies can do that. A very large
Masd princeps just yellowed all of last year's leaves. It was considerate enough to start a new plant next to the old one, which is perking along, but why these well established plants suddenly commit suicide is beyond me.

I tried everything on this specimen. rescued part of it which succumbed after 6 months and I had this plant for several years.

Now 4 are open, there is a 5th but it's very early by the time it's ready, the others will have faded.
