We've never tried growing the seeds inside but as easily as they spread from seed, I'll bet you can start them outside in the spring right in the ground with no problem. Didn't I promise you some volunteers this spring??

Hi Kat, Have you tried Winter sowing? It works great for me. I got into it when I lost my Mother, then my Daddy. It gets pretty rough at times but the more plants you can grow helps. Go over to the winter sowing forum and check it out. Marge

Kat am so sorry about your mom. Just plain hurts to loose them. Always seems like you never did enough for them. Hope you are doing better. Your a great gal and you need to take care of your self. I have been doing winter sowing also and did put some daylily seed out. Will have to see what happens. Have some rose of sharon but dont know if will get it started. Have so much to do and not enough hours of daylight to do it all.
Keep your chin up and keep busy. All will get better. May not seem like it but it will. Judy

O.K. I did some surfing about ROS with Yahoo.. They are very easily grow and spreading when the seeds came off in the fall and sprouts in the spring. It said.. can dig it out babies and planting it in new hole and grow it. Hmmm.. I quess.. I will play planting ROS seeds and sitting underlight. I am doing it for my freind. HA..

Sure, Kat. I'll try to remember when they come up, which they always do. I usually pull up a lot of "babies" in the spring and thin them out.

So sorry to hear that you lost your mother Kat. The holidays must've been pretty rough for you.

You might want to try a few ROS seeds in a container outside also. They won't get quite as early a start but they're already hardened off that way. I've always had trouble moving plants outside that I've had under lights so I like sowing in containers outside. Maybe if you try a few both ways, you'll be more likely to have success.

Kat, so very sorry to here about your mother. Kat it does get better.it just takes time.
I don't know anything about rose of sharons but ibought one two years ago so hopefuly i'll learn.
I promised you some mint plants this spring if i forget please hollar.

Me too, Kat! Sorry to hear about your mom. I still miss mine after 18 years, but it does get easier to deal with as has been said. You'll never be sorry that you did all you could for her.

Hi, Kathy. I'm looking forward to watching the plants we traded last year get their first full season of growth. I already see the grape hyacinths emerging, and the crossed daylilies you gave me last year as little seeedlings should do well. I also see the sedums you gave me sprouting out of all my stone walls.

Hi Kathy, my heart goes out to you for your loss. I lost my mom last March so I know how you must be hurting. Gardening is wonderful therapy and maybe you'd like to plant a small garden in her memory. I've seen a lot of people doing that. I brought home some of my mom's and my grandmother's daffodils after my mom's funeral and they've begun coming up. It made my heart sing when I saw them peeping out of the ground a few weeks ago.
