Someone over on the Cottage Garden Forum has it started from seed. I have never heard of it before. I need to look it up. Is it a real variety or did someone named Yvonne just disperse seeds?

It's not a named variety but an elderly lady named Yvonne gave seeds to a Gardenweb member named Emily who has sent the seeds all over the country. Yvonne had been collecting seeds from her tallest salvia for many years and over time developed a very tall salvia splendens that was special to her and she wanted to share them before she died. Birds and Blooms magazine did a story on it. Yvonne recently passed away at 94. I don't know how many packets Emily has mailed out but a LOT and just for postage in return so she is a very special person also. I think Emily has a website or blog somewhere with the story but I don't have the link.

Thanks Christie. She sounds like a wonderful person, both of them. I used to visit over the fence with my elderly neighbor who had a large vegetable garden. I enjoyed her a lot. Now the years have passed and guess who I am?
