Well, I just have to ask...Where did you get "cold hardy" gardenias, and please define? I about cry every time I pick one up in the houseplant section of Lowe's or the grocery store and give it a good sniff, since they are supposed to be poisonous to pets, and NOT hardy here. I used to live in East TX, and had one in the back yard.

There have been some threads here in the past year or two with most ppl saying zone 6...the gardenia's don't make it.
Even Klein's (sp?) Hardy...etc

These plants Kleins, and Chuck Hayes, are from Nurseries Caroliniana, Inc. www.nurcar.com and are supposed to be ok to 0 degrees. In a severe protracted single digit freeze, I need to protect them, they could die to ground but are supposed to come back. I'll just baby them in really severe cold. They are planted on a sw brick wall for a microclimate protection.
