I tried to grow some when I lived in Tennessee zone 6B and failed. It was a Christmas gift plant, one of those plant a month type things. Saw the same ones for sale at a big box store here in Little Rock yesterday.

Are you referring to Confederate (AKA star) jasmine? I tried to grow some once at my old house in Springfield. It was right in the middle of town, and seemed to have a little warmer microclimate. But it died anyway the second year. (It did manage to survive one winter, but died way back.) I did plant it on the north side of the house (right by our BR window :( ), might have done better on the south side, in a very protected spot.

IIRC, I picked it up at Dillon's, you know when they have the big house plants sitting outside the doorway. You might keep your eyes open in the next month or two. I figure anything is worth trying to grow once. :D

Carolina jasmine grows wild here. My grandfather had some that my grandmother got years ago & pruned into shrubs on either side of the porch, but he recently cut it all down. If you want to try growing it, let me know.

I bought jasmine sambac at Lowe's one year. I think it was with the annuals. It's been very easy to keep as a houseplant through the winter and I even got a couple of blooms. It needs a sunny window and will bloom pretty good in the house in the summer. I kept one as a hanging basket by my porch for awhile but I couldn't smell it when it was outside. In the house I could smell it from a few feet away.

Is Carolina jasmine like night blooming jasmine? I want the kind that grows outside and smells so good. Would it grow in SW MO?

I live in Forsyth near Branson. I have had Sambac and several other varieties of the culinary jasmine. I keep them in pots on the deck near our sittig area and can smell the fragrance especially in the evenings. I winter them over in a bathtub in a guest bath that has a large glass block window for adequate light. This year I forgot to water them..imagine that. And lost them. But usually I just a hand held shower sprayer and give them a cool bath and occassional soaking and they do just fine. Well worth the trouble. Marge
