My vinca doesn't bloom nearly that well. I was afraid to fertilze it afraid it would take over the entire yard.

That vinca does have lots of blooms. Glenda and others are making me want a pie cherry. Are the ornamental cherries easier to keep than the fruit trees? Do you spray for borers?

Helen, I just have one sour cherry tree. I never spray it for anything.....I get lots of cherries from it. I just pick until I am tired and then let the Mocking Birds have it.

It is a very easy care tree. Mine is either Meteor or North Star. I had both and one died. They cannot take wet ground so plant them on a high spot or berm; peaches are the same; probably all stone fruits. They are self pollinating but will do better with another tree nearby. I guess my neighbor's tree (I can't see the house from here) may help. I planted that tree too! They bought our old farm. The two farms are adjoining.

Glenda I did have a pie cherry for years. It was a natural dwarf. It got borers too but lived for years so was worth having. I wondered if the ornamental ones needed spraying and care like fruit trees. My flowering crab blooms so briefly but it takes absolutely no care and I can look forward to its blooms every year. Three classmates and I visited last week. The one that has Rheumatoid Arthritis is eating black cherries and vegetables and watching her diet. She says she no longer has to take some of the strong medicine. I don't have RA but know someone who does. I love when Wal-Mart has those dark sweet cherries a certain time of the year, but I think another pie cherry would be my only choice. I may get two as you said for pollination.
